Absolutely nothing, at first. When PC Gamer first mentioned it, I read the article and thought "eh, not for me". Nothing about it really appealed to me.
Few months after the release, sick of my partner's rabid obsession with it, I started a character on his account, just to see what the fuss was about.
Within about a month I had two accounts of my own.
@Mordakai: Autumn In Ascalon - beautiful.

What attracted me to Guild Wars?
It was free. I don't mean "no subscription fee", I mean it was literally free. I won a copy of Nightfall in a City of Heroes competition.
Spoken like a true fan.

A friend reintroduced me to it after having heard about it from the E3 for Everyone event. I got signed up just after the second to last beta test for Ch1 and took part in the last beta, never making it out of presearing till after retail release. Was hooked ever since and have been. I take breaks once in a while due to school, work and avoiding burnout on the game, but always come back to enjoy it.
I've tried other MMO's, CoV/CoH, WoW and some others but never really got hooked to them like GW grabbed me.

area to start from the 3 campaigns so that realy was the magnet for this game and ofcourse because the game is free, i would have begun playing world of warcraft if it was free because i heard of it before than gw

No monthly fees, better graphics compared to WoW, no more grind to reach levels.
That is what attracted me to Guild Wars.

I'd been playing NWN for a long while on some custom servers, got tired of it and bought a few games at random. GW stuck with me.
Playing within a few seconds of launching the game, innovative gameplay and the finest looking thing I'd seen in a long while? They didn't even want my creditcard. No contest, they had me.

1. FREE online play (e.g. no monthly fee after you buy the game).
2. Friends reccommended it
3. Always been a fan of RPG games (my old school favs are final fantasy series')
Now I'm hooked...

E3 for Everyone event. I'd never played anything like it as I was an FPS fanboy. I played every weekend that they let us log on after that (but I missed vengeful Gwen). I was hooked. I've only checked out one other rpg since really, EveOnline. But only during the 2-wk freebie period. GuildWars is an amazing game with a crazy amount of content for being a non-subscription game. I love it!

A friend invited me to the preview event in october 2004 (or 2005, forgot). I joined and just the look of kryta, stanced zones, and skill system got me. However, I'm losing interested on the game each day, to be honest.

I had heard that there were no monthly fees so I just assumed that it sucked. I read some glowing reviews however, picked it up, and have been hooked ever since.
Been into computer RPG's since playing some "text only" RPG's on the Commodore PET's at high school. Shortly after I was hooked on Ultima III as a teenager back in...like '84? Has it been that long? Played Ultima IV and V too. Good times.

Ive always been into RPGs.
Saw the pretty picture on the box, so I looked at the game, saw no monthly fee and decided to give it a try. Hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours later Im still here.
